As a member of the Committee for the Hunter, you are part of a powerful network committed to giving our region a louder, more influential voice 

Our membership includes the largest employers and economic anchors in the region, industry, business, unions, all three levels of government, education providers and the community sector. 

Our advocacy uniquely joins the dots across sectors, levels of government and the geography of the Greater Hunter, taking a coordinated and long-term approach to the region’s development.   

We work across our members, expert advice, evidence and peak body partners to advocate for Hunter priorities with a unified voice using our public reporting and strong media presence to keep governments accountable. Your membership and support is critical to enabling us to deliver on this important function for the region not readily delivered by other entities.  

 

Key social, economic and sustainability wins for the region:

 

  • Influencing the scope and priorities of emerging NSW and Federal Net Zero/transition authorities  

  • $16M for a New Energy Skills Hub at University of Newcastle  

  • $56.2M for the Net Zero Manufacturing TAFE Centre of Excellence, Hunter  

  • Joint funding for the $128.5M ‘Port to REZ’ program, upgrading roads for transport of essential clean energy and transmission infrastructure  

  • $850M Kongsberg Missile Factory, anchoring a defence industry precinct at Newcastle Airport  

  • Investment in defence capabilities at RAAF Williamtown 

 

2024 Year in Review

  • $55M for terminal upgrades and $66M for runway upgrades to open up international capacity at Newcastle Airport  
  • Commitment to expedite the business case for High Speed Rail – Sydney to Newcastle  

  • Hydrogen Headstart funding, with two Hunter projects shortlisted  

  • $560M for Singleton Bypass 

  • A pathway to unlock a container terminal at the Port of Newcastle and $100M funding for the Clean Energy Precinct
