As we wrap up another impactful year at the Committee for the Hunter, I’m pleased to share some reflections on our progress and milestones.
I have had the privilege of playing a leading role in the establishment of the Committee for the Hunter and being its inaugural chair. I am proud of the impact we have achieved in these few short years. I am grateful for the support I have received in this role from so many and for the opportunity to have been able to take this leadership role in our community.
From our humble beginnings in 2018 with seven founding members, our growth to a diverse network of 70+ members highlights the strength and vision we share, driving the region forward.
This year’s AGM is a testament to the collaborative spirit that defines us. I thank everyone who joined us, especially our Patron and Gold members, new members and our host, Aurecon, for their hospitality.
This year's achievements highlight our commitment to positioning the Hunter as a region of opportunity.
Key among these was the release of the Hunter Hydrogen Infrastructure Masterplan, laying out a bold vision for the Hunter to be a leading hydrogen hub and to continue our role as an exporter of energy. This work, alongside our advocacy in transport and youth via the Going Places: Transport & accessibility for young people in the Hunter report, reinforces the role of the Committee as a catalyst for change.
Another key piece of advocacy is our upcoming Why the Hunter report, which showcases the region's unmatched potential for investment, backed by evidence of strong economic performance, strategic assets, and a skilled workforce. The research behind this report will be used in our advocacy to both the public and private sectors to demonstrate that investment in the Hunter can generate a better and quicker return. In fact, we refer to this report as Why Not the Hunter.
It is important to have a succession plan in place so as I step down as Chair, I reflect with pride on what we have achieved and the legacy we’ve built together. The Committee's growth, resilience, and strategic impact reflect the dedication of our members, Directors, and CEO Alice Thompson’s leadership.
I know that I have left the Committee in very capable hands with Katie and Rod as the new Chair and Deputy Chair and look forward to continuing to support them for the remainder of my term on the Board.
I’m excited to see what lies ahead as we continue advocating for the Hunter with a unified and influential voice.
Thank you for your ongoing support of the Committee.
I look forward to a successful 2025.
