SEPTEMBER 2025 E-NEWSLETTER
30th September 2025
The Committee for the Hunter Board held their 2025 Strategic Planning Day at the Melt Modern Manufacturing Centre in Muswellbrook.
Mayors and GMs of Muswellbrook, Singleton and the Upper Hunter engaged with directors on opportunities and challenges, including economic transition, skills and workforce, youth futures, roads and water quality/supply.
A consistent sentiment was that while the region is moving to an orderly timeline for mine site closures, disruptions to the schedule were well anticipated, potentially bringing some of these forward from current plans.
For a resource region accustomed to commodity cycles, new jobs, industry and investment are priorities of today, not tomorrow. With a keen focus on the scope and activities of the Federal Net Zero Economy Authority and NSW Future Jobs and Investment Authorities.
Directors discussed strategic directions for the Committee over the past five years since our establishment. Expect to see positioning and language in our next strategic plan (2026+), strengthening our independence and roles as a thinktank and bold advocate for the Hunter.
A mission report from our CEO, Alice Thompson's recent participation in a delegation to Denmark focused on offshore wind, engaging with members on priorities and positioning for the Hunter will be circulated.
